This case study details the redesign and relaunch of StartupGVL.com, a website for the Greenville, South Carolina startup community. The initial design and development were outsourced to a web development company, but due to internal issues on their end and a lackluster CMS experience, the project was brought in-house.
StartupGVL was a campaign spearheaded by the City of Greenville and NEXTGen to create a singular hub for the innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem in Greenville and the surrounding areas. Initially, the city contracted a larger web agency to develop the website, but after a series of dropped balls, the contract was terminated. One of our business’s co-founders, who worked for the city at the time, was then tapped to re-create, re-host, and improve the website. This initiative needed to be executed quickly and effectively to meet community and administrative expectations.
In just five weeks, we designed and delivered a fully functional website for StartupGVL. We began by establishing a design system to ensure a cohesive visual identity across the platform. Next, we built dynamic modules that streamlined content management for administrators, making the site easier to update and maintain. We collaborated with content creators to populate the website with engaging, informative, and accessible content. This collaborative effort resulted in a polished and user-friendly site that met the needs of both content creators and visitors.

Our efforts culminated in a website with enhanced functionality and an improved user experience. Administrators benefited from streamlined content management tools, while site visitors enjoyed more content and greater accessibility. The final product reflected StartupGVL’s mission to serve as a central hub for the entrepreneurial community. The site’s revamped structure and design significantly boosted its usability, ensuring long-term value for both the organization and its audience.
